Jesus didn’t just feel the physical pain, he felt rejection and isolation from God and everyone around him. He descended to the lowest rung on the social ladder. He became a slave and died a slave’s death. Even though he possessed the highest honor, he embraced the worst disgrace. This is the scandalous message of the Cross.
